Despite the various health programmes designed for young people in Indonesia the service uptake is low. To address this, the Access, Services and Knowledge (ASK) programme – a three-year programme funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs – was launched in 2013 with the aim to improve SRH service uptake by people aged 10-24. Within the context of the ASK programme, in 2015, RiH as a lead consultant collaborated with Indonesian partner organisations, Siklus Indonesia (an independent local consultants, and consultancy network) conducted an Operational Research (OR) on the opportunities and barriers for increasing the uptake of SRH services among underserved young people in Indonesia. This OR is preceded with a literature review and aimed to obtain real-life experiences of young people accessing SRH services in DI Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The OR aimed to obtain ‘positive examples’ of the real-life experiences of young people accessing SRH services. Using various qualitative research methods, ResultsinHealth identified the pathways to SRH services taken by young people in urban, suburban and rural areas in DI Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The results of the OR – and concrete recommendation on what investments to make to increase the SRHR uptake of young people – were presented at the International Conference of Family Planning in Bali, Indonesia, January 2016.
